Umbon’ Omhle Youth Development organisation will be launching its website on this year’s Youth day, 16th June 2009. The main idea of the day is to launch the website through programs aimed at creating awareness about access to education and information of all kinds.

The programs, which will be aimed at the general public, include performances in audio drama, drama, poetry, dance, singing, sport and a number of other artistic activities. There will also be stalls highlighting our other projects such as our gardening, library, audiovisual and portraiture projects. The basic theme throughout the performances will be about how any member of the public, especially the elderly, can access the internet for practical knowledge about any subject they wish to know about. We will have speakers representing teachers, the local library and the local internet café.

All the stalls and programs will give the audience a general idea about how Langa residents, although this will apply to residents of most townships or areas, can improve their lives, homes, projects, or even businesses through the information highway. This will include improving relations with local teachers, to visiting the local library regularly for books and to finding out about the internet service which the library provides to the public free of charge.

This event will be held at the local Civic hall, popularly known as the ‘Johnson Ngwevela’ hall. This hall is located opposite the well known Guga S’thebe Arts and Culture Centre on Washington Street. The event is open to the public and will begin at 11h30 that morning. All are welcome, wherever they are from. The organisation will be catering soup for the performers of the shows. We advise people to come prepared to buy ‘boerewors rolls’ which will be sold by an organisation fundraising to take youth from Athlone, a neighbouring township, to university.
